J.A.M.E.S. Wastewater Treatment Plant

The ‘Joint Abbotsford Mission Environmental Systems’ Wastewater Treatment Plant (JAMES Plant) is located at 5959 Gladwin Road and is jointly owned and operated by the City of Abbotsford and the District of Mission. The JAMES Plant was constructed in 1980 to 1981 and has gone through a number of expansions over the years to serve the increased population growth. The service area of the JAMES Plant includes the City of Abbotsford, the District of Mission, East Langley (Aldergrove and Gloucester Industrial park), and the City of Sumas, Washington, USA.

Scope of work includes a new primary effluent pump station, secondary clarifier, biological sludge pump station, effluent pump station and waste solids thickener. The upgrades will increase the plant’s handling capacity by 61% and improve the quality of the treated effluent discharged into the Fraser River. It is anticipated the upgrades will also allow the plant to meet or exceed both municipal sewage regulations as well as address anticipated federal regulations.
